Adriene & Rumi

Many of you, who watch my Facebook and Google Business social media posts, will know I am always seeking to share ways that help us thrive, rejuvenate and heal.

I have found the work of Adriene Mishler's, via the 'Adriene Yoga' and 'Find what feels good' networks, to be very helpful in balancing minds and bodies.

The question remains - who helps the healers?  Adriene quotes a poem by Rumi that has helped her along, on her life journey. See what you think ...

The Guest House by Rumi

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

By Jalaluddin Rumi - from Rumi: Selected Poems, translated by Coleman Barks with John Moynce, A. J. Arberry, Reynold Nicholson (Penguin Books, 2004).
